The open days for Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry have finished for this year. As the school is based at the Whitechapel campus of Queen Mary University, they will be participating in the Queen Mary open day. This day will be split into a morning and afternoon session and you can turn up to the one you book for at any time.
The general open day will be located at the Mile End campus. There will be a range of lectures and demonstrations as well as stands for medicine. There, you will be able to pick up some information leaflets about the 5 year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) course and applying for it and take them home. Remember that you will need to sit the UKCAT (UK Clinical Aptitude Test) so you may want to ask staff or current students some questions about that.
You can also go to a medicine talk but you won’t be able to see any of the medical teaching facilities as these are located at the Whitechapel campus. It is worthwhile remembering that Barts has the largest A&E department in the country along with a tropical disease department that is known across the globe. Another important factor is that the course uses a lot of problem-based learning (known as PBL). This type of learning is not for everyone so finding out more information on how it works will be beneficial to you when it comes to applying for university.
You can print off a map of the campus and embark on a self-guided tour of the Whitechapel campus. This will enable you to see the places that you will be studying in if you decide to choose medicine. A virtual tour of the campus is also available on the university’s website so you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your house to be able to look around.
